Time certainly flies!<br />

I'm less than 2 weeks away from the Rhinebeck Half. I've been training diligently and unfortunately gaining some weight in the process but I'm not really surprised. I always do when I train. I'm at 183 today. I ended up being most comfortable at 174 and I plan to get back down there when the race is done but honestly, I'm still comfortable, I would just feel a little better a little lighter.<br />
<br />
The training and doing weights and cross training has really made a difference in my body. I wear a size 6 in one my pairs of jeans! That's completely insane to me. I have never been that size. I know pant sizes are never consistent but still...<br />
<br />
I'm up to 9 miles in my training and I will be running 10 miles in a couple of days. The running has been very challenging at times but it always is. The one bad thing I've run into on my last 2 longer runs was low blood sugar attacks. The timing of when they happened was different for each one and I was emailing with a nutritionist from the bariatric runner group on FB. I basically need to eat more and more consistently. The surgery went great. I couldn't be happier with my progress. Dr. Garcia did a great job. I'm fitting into things so differently now. It's SO strange not having the muffin top roll anymore. Everything got pulled up and it's wonderful.<br />
<br />
Everything is still numb but I know it will take a long time for that to go away. I still wear my binder a lot. I was cleared to basically wear it when I want to last week. I feel a lot more secure with it on but I try not to wear it all the time to get used to it.<br />
<br />
I weigh 169 today and I'm very happy with that. My new goal weight is 160. I'm not worried about 145 anymore. I don't think I would be happy with that weight. So yeah, 9 more lbs and I think I'll be happy with it but who knows? I'll be dealing with this for the rest of my life. I know I always have to be careful not to gain weight and ruin this surgery. When I'm PMS'ing, it's rough but I just need to get through that week and do better after.<br />

I'm registered for a half marathon in October in Rhinebeck and I'm thinking about doing a 6-hour timed trail race in August but I want to see how the running goes. I've gone twice since I was cleared last week. The first time was rough but yesterday was much better. <span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">I'm loving who I'm becoming and the fact that most of the time I work hard to be that person. Between going to school, working, eating well and exercising, life is hectic but good.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">I weigh 173 today. 9 more lbs to go to get to surgery goal weight. Then it will be 20 more lbs from there. I can finally picture this actually happening... the whole thing of getting the surgery, having a flatter tummy, feeling more confident in myself and getting to my goal weight. I love that I can picture all that now. It's a great feeling!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">The eating thing is still and will always be a challenge. I fucking LOVE bread! I don't know what it is about it. It's comfort, it's filling, it makes me happy but not for long. I stopped eating bread 2 days ago again and the scale already shows the difference. It's crazy. So I'm not eating bread or the pretzels I love at work. I have to stop both or I won't have success with losing weight. It's a fact. Each day is a challenge but it will always be like that. Taking it one day at a time will always have to be how I do things and that's ok because each day is different.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">Tonight will be interesting. We are going to see Louis CK at Albany Funny Bone. The tickets went on sale this morning and sold out in an hour. He's had a lot of things happen to him this past year with being accused of sexual harassment and his act. He's going to be trying new material and no cell phones are allowed. So yeah, I'm pretty excited about it.</span><br />

I haven't lost any more weight. I'm still around 174. I'm not happy about that but I know it's my own fault for not sticking with my diet as well as I should be. I feel somewhat bad about it but on the flip side, I've continued running and I joined Planet Fitness. I am now working out with the weight machines. I run a few times a week and go to the gym at least that much. I figure at this point I'm burning more calories and the 800-900 calorie/day goal that I had when I first started, let's say, my "wellness" goals, isn't going to be possible anymore. Actually, it hasn't been possible in months.<br />
<br />
It's not that I'm not into this anymore, I absolutely am. I have had to adjust things because the PMS symptoms have become worse and holding back on eating bad food has become extremely hard. I know my body is changing and in general I feel good but I still need to lose more weight. I've decided that I'm upping my calories to 1100/day and my new goal is to be at 165 for my tummy tuck surgery on 2/4/19. That gives me a little over 5 weeks to lose 10 lbs which I think is doable. I'm still aiming for a goal weight of 145. My body seems to like the 170s but I'm not sure if that's laziness or not. I don't like it though and I will continue to work on this, however long it may take. I'm allowing myself to eat what I want for New Year's eve and when we go out for our birthdays but in general, I'm sticking with this new way of life pretty well. I need to always remember that it's been 8 months and since food is my go-to drug of choice, I have to be kind to myself about it which will always be a challenge. As long as I put good food into my body most of the time, I think I'm doing well. Years and years of junk and crap can't be forgotten. I don't want to continue eating like that or should I say, go back to that because I like who I am now and who I'm becoming. I love that I enjoy running again and that I started trail running. I love that I feel a little bad ass with my tattoos when I work out and I enjoy the weight machines at the gym.<br />
<br />
My life is different now. I choose healthy eating and exercising before eating badly and being lazy (most of the time LOL!) and that's what's important. No one is perfect and I don't strive for that. What I <i>am</i> striving for is being the best version of me. The tummy tuck is going to help with the jiggly tummy and my happiness. I will be able to walk after and run 6 weeks after. I would like to do a trail race toward the end of 2019 too. We are going to New Orleans in April and I can't wait!<br />

I know it's been a couple months since I last wrote but things are good.<br />

I'm still losing weight and I'm at 174.2 today. Like I've said before, the weight fluctuates but I usually average a loss of about 2 lbs/week. The 800 cal/day thing has not been happening. It's too hard especially with the running. It's probably around 900-1000 but I'm still being careful most of the time. I'm not going to run more than 3 miles at a time because I don't want to derail my weight loss. When I get to my goal, I will start running more/longer.<br />
<br />
I also decided I want the tummy tuck. I saw another dr in Glens Falls who was a lot cheaper than the one in Saratoga. I decided against going to Mexico. It's just too far and I want to be closer to home when all that happens. I'm hoping to have it done late winter/early spring but I need to get to a weight I'm comfortable at for a little while. I'm shooting for around 150 for my vacation in December to Curacao. So 24 lbs in 10 weeks. But, that may not be doable so I'm going to work hard and get as close as I can!<br />
<br />
I've still been running and enjoying it a lot. I've been doing trails and road. I decided not to run the Adirondack 5k last weekend because I'd had a rough week and really needed the rest. The Lake Placid 10k is on 10/6. I walked on a trail last weekend and then ran on a different one a few days ago. I'm enjoying the trails. They aren't as hard on my legs and feet as the pavement.<br />

As for the weight, I'm a little over 186 right now. It's been slow going and as normal, it goes up and down. I'm still tracking everything I eat and while I haven't been perfect all the time, I still haven't had bread and for the most part I keep away from sugar. When I have more of something than I should, it's not anything bad, it's just more than I think I should. I'm the one who set my calorie amount at 800/day. I still don't know if that is right or wrong but for the most part it's worked. I've been doing this losing weight thing for 3 1/2 months now. I feel a ton better and I've gotten to the point where I'm revisiting the idea of having a tummy tuck. I thought about it after I had the gastric bypass but never really thought about it since because I gained some weight back. I went to a dr in Saratoga yesterday for a consultation and it was very expensive. I knew it would be but it was kind of a wake-up seeing the numbers written down. The dr had suggested a beltline lapectomy which is the tummy tuck and then the sides. The total for the at was around $15,000. The tummy tuck alone would be $8900. So, yeah, too much. I posted on one of the gastric bypass groups last night about it and there were some suggestions of having it done in Mexico. I've heard of that before but always thought it was a very scary idea. But now, I'm trying to figure out why I think it's so scary. Our media here has made other countries, including Mexico, seem like a crazy scary place where these surgeries would be done in back alleys. But from what I've read so far, this one place in Tijuana seems just the opposite and they only charge $3400. Is this too good to be true? I have no idea. It's a very interesting idea that I need to get a lot more info about.<br />

I'm going to be tested this weekend by going to Boston, food-wise but I'm bringing my food so I don't get off track. I know it will be hard but this is very worth it. Only 48 more lbs to go to get to my goal of 140.<br />

So yes, I had pink eye and yes, it sucked. Big time! It was the viral type so I had to wait it out since no meds would help. It started in my left eye and then made its way to my right. Yuck! I was out of work for 3 weeks. I've been back to work for a week and 1/2 and I feel a lot better.<br />
<br />
I've been at a weight loss stall for 2 1/2 weeks. The last time I lost anything was 6/24 (I've lost a total of around 27-28 lbs) which is VERY frustrating! I know I've gotten smaller but the scale won't budge except for the same 2 lbs. I've tried upping my calories, lowering them, having a cheat day. Nothing is working. I started measuring myself yesterday so I'm going to that once a week. I guess I could only lose at the rate I was for so long before my body needed a break and to get used to it. I just really hope it doesn't last much longer. I remember having stalls after I had the surgery. I think some of them lasted at least a few weeks.<br />
<br />
I also got my leg tattoo worked on more after 3 years. I really like how it's turning out and I should have only one more session to complete it. Mike (the tattoo artist) is leaving to go on the road at the end of Aug so I was getting worried he wasn't going to finish it before he left because in May I went to have more outlining done and I only lasted an hour because of the pain. This time, I lasted 6 because I took a painkiller and ibuprofen. Thank god! I'll have to do the same thing when I go back at the end of Aug.<br />

I booked the plane tickets for Curacao in December and I can't wait!<br />

Tonight we are going to see Halsey at SPAC but the one I really can't wait for is Foo Fighters (finally!!!!) at Fenway in Boston on 7/21. I'm SO excited for that!<br />

So let's get the bad out of the way first.<br />

I have pink eye... I guess. I've never had it and my dr. wasn't quite sure at first that's what it was but she's treating it as if it is. The problem is, I think it's more because I just feel like crap in general. I have no energy and have to admit that I'm a little down because of it. I was going 150 mph before this happened, between school, work, running, and losing weight so as usual, my body has decided to make me slow down.<br />
<br />
There's more good than bad though. I've lost 21 lbs and the running is going well. I'm very proud of myself and have been working very hard losing weight. I'm still not eating processed carbs or sugar and while some days are extremely difficult, other days aren't. That's life in general though for everyone. You have to take the good with the bad.<br />
<br />
School has been very challenging but I knew it would be taking a compressed class. I'm working hard and I will get through it. There are only 2 weeks left of this one and then I start another but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.<br />
<br />
I'm very excited that I've booked a trip for us to go to Curacao in December. I'm hoping to be very bathing suit-ready and I <i>might</i> even wear a 2-piece for the first time in my life!<br />

Everything is going well. I’ve lost more weight (down 14 lbs
total and 37 to go!), I’ve been keeping up with running, and I feel better in
general. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do about Couch 2 5k since I’ve been on
the fence about using that program, because for the future, I want to use the
Jeff Galloway Run/Walk method of 1 min run/1 min walk. I decided to get a timer
app for my phone that I can customize to notify me to run or walk after each
minute. I’ve used It once and it worked well so far. I figured I should train
now the way I want to run later.</div>

I also started school again last week. I’m attending Arizona
State online now and my first class is Abnormal Psychology. It’s very intense
because it’s a compressed summer class (only 6 weeks) but I had to start with a
summer class because I was going to have to start paying back my student loans
since it had been almost 6 months since I last attended classes through
Plattsburgh. Juggling the class, life, work and running is a challenge but I’m
keeping at it. Eating better has been easier the last 2 weeks since I haven’t
been PMS’ing. That was definitely the roughest it’s been so far. </div>

I’ve been listening to some trail running podcasts. My dream
is to start doing trail running and long distance runs on the trails at some
point. I have no doubt that I will get there. Things have been going so well
and the weight has been coming off, which will make running easier as time goes
on. The less weight I have to carry, the better.<br />
<br />
I also registered for two races to keep myself motivated. One is a 5k at the end of September and the other is a 10k at the beginning of October. I should be ready by then to tackle these new challenges! </div>

This eating better/dieting thing is rough. I know, it's never easy for anyone. It's hard not to compare yourself to others though.<br />
<br />
My husband has been on his diet for 3 weeks and he has lost 30 lbs. I've been on mine 4 weeks and I've lost 11 lbs. Crazy, right? Yes, his is more restrictive than mine and he has a lot more to lose than I do and yes, he's a guy and they always lose quicker but... wow. It's hard not to be a little jealous. I'm doing my best though and we are very supportive of each other.<br />
<br />
I'm happy with my progress. Since this plan is something I came up with myself, I've had to re-evaluate it a few times, adjust here and there. It's not perfect but I need it to work for me, not anyone else. I track my food in an app on my phone but sadly, I become a little obsessed. I have a very addictive personality anyway so once I focus on something, I give it 110%. I'm going to need to relax a bit as of tomorrow because I start school again and the class I'm taking is a compressed summer class so my focus will have to be mainly on that... and running.<br />

I can't forget the running. I finished day 1 of week to of couch 2 5k yesterday. It went well. Some of it (or most) was because I found a new running route that was beautiful. It's by a waterway and there were geese, ducks, baby geese and beautiful scenery in general. The weather was a perfect 71 degrees and not humid. It was great to be out there!<br />

I'm considering signing up for a race. It's a 10k that will be in Lake Placid in October. I'm not sure yet but I'm definitely going to think about it. <br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I started PMS'ing today which hasn't been awful in general each month but I definitely feel myself having less tolerance for things. Luckily this only goes on for a couple days.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Of course this time, I don't have food to fall back on when I'm stressed. Today is the start of week 4 of my eating better/trying to lose weight. I've lost 7 lbs so far and I have 54 to go. My first goal is to lose 34 more pounds. I can't wait!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I got back outside yesterday for day 2 of couch 2 5k. I did well but I think I overdid it. I was pretty exhausted for a few hours afterwards and I realized that my head still thinks I can run like I did a few years ago but my body begs to differ.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm going to keep at it though! </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It will all come back with time, I know that. I took 2 walks today which helped me mentally. I know it will help physically too. I'm looking forward to the day where running is good again. I know it was never easy, so I won't say that but I look forward to it being a regular part of my life again.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I wasn't really sure how to start again. I thought maybe just getting out there doing walk/run intervals would be good but I really need structure. I've always been like that. I'm not a "winging it" type of person. So, the couch 2 5k app is the way I'm going.</span><br />

time to put pen to paper or fingers to keys and start recording my journey

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Health-wise I’ve been fine in the sense of no major
problems. Weight-wise, I’ve gained around 40 lbs which has really made a
difference in how I look and feel.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I got off track with eating better mostly when I went back
to school in 2015. I also stopped running at that point, which I miss greatly.
It’s time to get back on the horse.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Since 4/16/18 I’ve been working on losing weight. Since my
needs are different since I had bariatric surgery in 2011, I decided to go with
a sort of jump-start option called The 5 Day Pouch Test. The goal is to go back
to basics, similar to the days following surgery. The first 2 days are liquid-only
and for days 3-5 proteins are added back in. Protein is the most important
thing in a bariatric surgery patient’s nutritional needs and we need more than
most people. Since my surgery, protein shakes have come a long way and I’ve
found some that taste great, are low in sugar and carbs, and really help me to
get my daily protein in.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Along with the 5-day jump start, I decided to go processed carb
and sugar free.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>There are some carbs and
sugar in the food I eat but it’s natural for the most part. My main goal with
this part of my new journey was to get off bread, which I’ve successfully done.

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The first 2 days of the pouch test were difficult and all
about carb withdrawals. My 13-hour long headache was evidence of that.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I miss bread but I don’t crave it. It’s very strange for me
because I figured out yesterday that I’ve never <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">not</i> had bread or at least some type of processed white flour food.
This is the longest I’ve gone without it. As for sugar, I haven’t had that
either. Strangely, I don’t really miss it either.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The choice to go processed carb and sugar free was because I
finally got to the point in my bariatric journey that I ran out of luck. I was
one of the lucky ones who rarely had an issue eating most any type of food
after surgery. A few months ago, I started to have issues, especially at night.
I would eat something like crackers, go to bed and the wake up a couple hours
later to low blood sugar. Since I’ve stopped eating those processed carbs, I no
longer have that issue.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I’m also starting to run. I’m doing Couch 2 5k. I started it
last Saturday and haven’t been again since. I need to start working it into a
routine. The main issue for me is that I’m still not, nor will I ever be, a
morning person so it’s either run in the morning or at night after work. My
next goal is to start being consistent again. I felt so much better when I ran
and I really want it to be part of my life again.</span></div>

running outside wasn’t an option. I could’ve gotten up early and gone but chose
not to. I have a gym membership, yet didn’t use it but once during the week.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">Maybe it’s because I’m not a morning person. I’m not one
at all. I’ve never been and have finally accepted the fact that I need to stop
stressing about it and just deal with it. I’m married to a man who is a morning
person and my in-laws are morning people but I am not.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

it might be a combination of always thinking when I was young that I would see
someone running outside and think that it was amazing that their body could do
that and that it took discipline. I also love the way it make me feels after I
run but not so much during it. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">So why I haven’t I been out there? I still don’t know. I
do know that I get lazy like the next person and running is hard. Yup, if you
never really thought about it and just spend time beating yourself up mentally
for not lacing up and getting out there, just remember: running is freaking
hard! As the saying goes, “If running wasn’t hard, everyone would be doing it.”
I’m not sure how true it is that <i>everyone
</i>would be doing it but you get the idea.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">So don’t beat yourself up if you miss some runs. Don’t
beat yourself up if you think you should be getting up early or anything else
that you think “everyone else” is doing because they are having the same mental
battles you are and there is no point to them. Make things as easy for yourself
as you can (but not so easy that you aren’t challenging yourself) and get out
there and enjoy yourself!<o:p></o:p></span></div>

I'm VERY happy too! I got 2 miles under my belt and yes, that belt is now got some extra holes added but I know running will help me get some of this weight off that I've gained during the past 6 months or so.<br />

As I said in my last post, there were a lot of obstacles that got in the way of my running. I need to start getting it through my head that running will actually help me deal with obstacles, not get in the way. So, that's my new goal. To use running as a tool to deal with life.<br />

recap includes my trying to trade in my leased car 3 months early to a very,
very crooked dealership, a trip to Ireland and getting ready to move. It’s been

stressful situations, I get emotional and don’t eat well or exercise. I also
get sick or have severe back pain. This time it was sick and I’m just starting
to get over it now. I’m also just now coming to terms with the fact that this
is part of life. Maybe not everyone’s life but definitely mine and I’m sure
there are others out there as well.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

to post something about my interesting 10k on 1/10 and I’m finally getting the

place in Central Park in New York City. I was looking forward to running it for
weeks and then as the day got closer, I found myself almost dreading it because
of how cold I heard it was going to be. Yup, cold as hell in my opinion. It was 15 degrees with a
windchill making it feel like 2 degrees. So no, I wasn’t looking forward to it
but I knew when I got up that morning in our hotel room that I would regret not
running it in a major way if I backed out. I’m not sure why but I just had this
feeling that I would’ve looked back on it and been very upset about it.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

the cold it was a beautiful, sunny morning. The race was sold out and there was
somewhere around 4500 runners there. I think that’s amazing considering the
conditions including the frostbite warnings. Runners are an unbelievably resilient

balaclava or face/head mask kind of thing which I’m VERY happy I did. I
went along with the group, running most of it and walking up the hills. It was very
emotional for me in some places because New York City holds a special place in
my heart and since losing my mom last year, I was thinking about her as well. I
got through it though and even though I had never done a 10k, I was hoping for
a time of 1:20-1:30. I finished in 1:23 which I’m very happy about.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

going to be doing another 10k in Central Park at the end of March. It’s the
NYRR Spring 10k Meltdown. I joined NYRR since I’ve already run two of their
races. It’s kind of funny that I did that considering I live almost 200 miles
away from New York City but I love going down there and joining their club made
my registration for the upcoming 10k only $10 which is pretty cool!<o:p></o:p></span></div>

to finally get to my goal weight since I had my gastric bypass surgery over 3
years ago. I would like to lose 46 lbs by 7/4/15. I am going to start next week
so I can get past not only my husband’s birthday today (and the cake I made)
but also I’m running a 10k this coming weekend and</span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; text-indent: -0.25in;"> I don’t think it’s a good
idea to change my eating too much before that.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; text-indent: -0.25in;">Another
goal is to go back to school for Psychology. I will need to start nearly from
scratch but that’s ok. It’s a goal I’ve wanted to work toward for a long time
and it finally feels like the right time. I’m planning to start in the summer
semester.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; text-indent: -0.25in;">I’m not
100% positive about this one but I think I would like to run the Adirondack
Marathon in September. I was going to run the one in New Orleans at the end of
this month but I decided not to. More on that below.</span></li>

not running the New Orleans marathon, I decided last month that it just wasn’t
the right time. After my 12-mile run I was dreading even going out at all to
run any amount. Add that to the short amount of time we were going to be able
to stay in New Orleans (a city I’ve wanted to go to my whole life which
deserves A LOT more time) and money in general (we are going back to Ireland in
April) and it just wasn’t right. I’m not upset about it all which is really
another sign that I made the right decision.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

I actually started a new plan on 10/19 that a wonderful friend wrote up for me. It was such a nice surprise that she had written it up for me. I was complaining that I just didn't have the motivation in me to run in general. I had been sick for awhile and I think it had taken a lot out of me. She wrote up a plan that had me running 3 days/week. This includes 2, 45-60 min runs during the week and 1 long run of varying distances on the weekend. Tomorrow will be a 10-miler. I'm a little nervous about it since it's been since I did the Brooklyn Half in May that I ran that far but I have a nice route picked out and I'll be trying out my new Nathan Intense hydration vest and Tailwind for nutrition. I've heard great things about Tailwind so I'll see how it goes.<br />

I've been spending time during the week running on the treadmill and one night this week I ran my 8-miler (I didn't get to do it over the weekend) at a local arena. That was challenging both mentally and physically because I had to count 48 laps to get the 8 miles in (I thought my Garmin could do it but not without a GPS connection and there wasn't one indoors) and the cement floor was a little rough on my legs. I persevered though!<br />

Another thing I'm now doing is running slower. I'm going to try it for a little while to see if I can increase my stamina. I think I was running too fast before and that was contributing to my needing to take a lot of walk breaks. I was ok with it because I figured I could do regular intervals at around 4 min run/1 min walk but I was getting tired after even a few of those. The last two treadmill runs I've run slower and been able to run long without walking. it’s been awhile since I’ve written but I have a good excuse. Well, I don’t
know if it’s good or not but it’s a reason. I was sick for about 6 weeks with
an upper respiratory infection. Yes, I waited 5 weeks to see a doctor which was
less than smart of me. I really thought the coughing was getting better at
different times. I swear! Well, it wasn’t. I’m doing better now. Still some coughing
but nothing like it was. I think it’s allergies at this point because when I
take an allergy pill I definitely feel better. They really dry me out though so
I’m not a huge fan.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

topic of running, I didn’t run at all for 6 weeks. None. So, day 1 of marathon
training was yesterday and it was TOUGH! Yup, 3 miles felt like 30 and the
dreadmill mocked me through the whole thing. Damn that thing! Even my beloved
Seinfeld on the TV in front of me couldn’t make me happy to be on that thing. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

still (and probably always will) going with intervals. I started off at 4:1. I
got through 3 sets of those and then went to 2:1 at a slower pace. It’s going to
take some time to get back into the swing of running and with 16 weeks of
training, I’m sure I’ll get back into it in no time.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

a rest day (I like this plan because it has 3 rest days per week and I’m going
to use at least one of them to back into weight training) and tomorrow is 4
miles and I think I’m going to try to get my butt up in the morning and get

other thing that’s been going on is I started getting a full-leg tattoo on my
left leg 2 days ago. Go big or go home, right?! It’s an Asian theme with
bug-eyed goldfish, waves, flowers and rocks. The thigh outline is done and I go
back in 3 weeks to start the color. Cool stuff.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

I haven't run since last weekend though because I threw my back out or hurt it or I really don't know what but it hurt. A LOT. I've been through a lot of back issues over the years starting when I was 14 and on and off until my last back surgery in 2003. Since 2003 I've only had a few short-term pains but this past weekend was definitely a reminder of that. I was very worried that it was going to be a long-term issue but it seems to be a lot better today. I'm not really sure what triggered it. I may have overdone it at the gym but all I did was slightly bend at my kitchen sink and I felt the infamous zing up my back.</div>

I've been taking care of the pain by walking and using a heating pad. I have a desk job so I was good about getting up and stretching a lot to avoid it getting stiff. One of the interesting parts of this (if there really are any) is that as soon as the pain hit on Monday morning, I started panicking like it was 11 years ago. It was almost like no time had gone by. But one of the main reasons I had the back issues 11 years ago was my weight and this time around I'm much smaller. I have to think that contributed to my getting better much quicker. But boy, I learned this week just how much running has become a part of my life because I really miss it and it hasn't been that long. Of course I also noticed every runner out there this past week which usually I'd notice some but not too many.</div>

So, my back is getting better and I can't wait to run again. I got another pair of my favorite running shoes, Brooks Adrenaline so I can go back and forth between my two pairs to keep them from wearing out too quick. And let's be honest, I can't <i>not </i>get more running shoes!<br />

Another good thing is that after a month of the scale not moving and my clothes not feeling any looser, I'm finally losing weight. I had to lower my daily calories a little bit and that seems to make the difference. I think that especially as I'm trying to lose weight, the whole calorie thing will have to be adjusted and readjusted on a regular basis and I would imagine that once I get to my goal weight, it will be the same situation but for now, I'm just happy the number on the scale are getting smaller. I feel better already and I've only lost 4 lbs. Those 4 lbs were hard earned though!</div>

haven’t lost any weight which I have to say is a bummer, but I also wasn’t
tracking my calories and I know after doing this for a long time that the only
way I can lose weight is be honest with myself by tracking my calories. This
cleaner way of eating has been a great change. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still
eating things that contain ingredients that I don’t recognize but I believe in
baby steps with some things and food is one of them. The drastic stuff doesn’t
work for me. I feel better and have a feeling that besides my run streak that
this better eating thing has really helped my running.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

of running, I did a 5k in Maine on 7/6 and beat my PR by 2 min! Pretty awesome,
right?! I came in at 38:42 and this included a few walk breaks which I always
do but had a feeling this time I wasn’t going to need any because I was feeling
so good. That was until I got near the ocean and all I could smell was seaweed
and fish. I usually don’t mind that smell but it didn’t hit me so well during
the run. I felt nauseous so I walked but I persevered and did great!<o:p></o:p></span></div>

whole eating and weight thing is still something that will always need to be
addressed and I HAVE to lose some weight before I start marathon training the 2<sup><span style="font-size: x-small;">nd</span></sup>
week of September. I just can’t go into it with all this extra baggage or as I
have nicknamed it, “pudge.” I know it’s not reasonable to think I’ll lose the
last 27 or so pounds in 2 months but I’d like to put a dent in it. Well, I’m
definitely on my way. I started tracking my food in MyFitnessPal again
yesterday, including upping my calories (I don’t think I was eating enough
after reading all sorts of stuff) so I know that will do the trick.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

run streak is over and I did it for the whole month. I felt proud to be doing it
to raise suicide awareness and proud of myself for sticking with it even on
days when I really didn’t want to. Will I do it again? Yup. I think as long as
the mileage isn’t high, I will probably try it again but for now I’m going to change
gears and start running to enjoy it and my health. I’m also going to continue
with the weight training that I started at the end of May. I feel better
already doing the weights.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

to say that even though I’ve decided to change to running just for enjoyment
and my health, that is going to be a challenge for me. I have a training plan
or should I say, maintenance plan all set up that I created before I ran
Brooklyn that I was going to start a couple weeks after I did the race. I will
need to get outside my comfort zone to not use that training plan for awhile,
or at all, and just start the marathon training in Sept like I planned. I also
like to track my mileage so even though I want to get out there for enjoyment,
I would want to track the mileage somehow. I should go out there without
wearing my Garmin and track on my iPhone instead. I don’t hold the iPhone in my
hand so it’s not like I’ll be able to continuously check it like I do my
Garmin.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

going to continue my “clean eating” lifestyle and work toward my weight loss
goal which is only 26 lbs away. I put clean eating in quotes because it seems
like such a fad thing and it really has so many definitions but for me, I like
one of the definitions I read that basically said to eat things where you
recognize most, if not all of the ingredients. I realize this is going to be a
lifetime of change but I’m already in that boat with having the gastric bypass
surgery and after this past Saturday, I realize more than ever how important it
is that I be smart about what I put in my mouth.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

past Saturday I had a low blood sugar episode. I don’t have Diabetes (I’ve been
checked) but I’m very aware of the symptoms since I’ve had them before and my
mom passed away from Diabetes complications.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

started Saturday with a 1.5 mi run and then went home, showered, changed and
eventually went to breakfast. I had my normal breakfast of 1 poached egg, 2
slices of bacon and 1 slice of toast. But today was a little different. I had a
few bites of hubby’s pancake with syrup on it. The combination of the
additional carbs, running and not having enough protein was what I’m thinking
did me in 2 hours later. I felt shaky, tired, a little out of it and craved
sugar. I had some lemonade and a soft pretzel and recovered but I learned a lot
that day.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

something called Reactive Hypoglycemia can occur in gastric bypass patients. I
won’t go into the details of what this is but basically, it can cause low blood
sugar issues/attacks and can be severe. I am now being much more aware of my
protein/carb balance.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

be going to my doctor to confirm my this but in the meantime, I already knew that
as a gastric bypass patient that I need a lot of protein and not as much carbs.
So, I learned that I need to be careful because just as a side note, now that I’m
more active I get even more annoyed when a weekend day has been wrecked which
is exactly what happened Saturday because after the blood sugar episode I
needed to come home and sleep for hours. Not fun but a learning experience
nonetheless.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

I've upgraded my half marathon status to the full marathon for the Rock 'N Roll New Orleans Marathon on 1/25/15!<br />

Nervous, excited, antsy, blah, blah, blah. Sure, I feel like all of those things but hey, I've left myself plenty of time to train (I don't need to start until September) and I've done 3 halfs so I already know how to kick some training ass!<br />

So for now I'm still doing the June run streak for suicide awareness. Today was day 17. I average about 1.5 miles/day and I'm still going strong. Hubby and I are weight training together and I also do some different machines on my own on days when he doesn't go so all is going well with that.<br />
<br />
I'm still waiting for the layoffs at work. They should happen this week or next. I'll be happy when they are finally over. The stress of waiting isn't good for any of us.<br />

the great things about the weight training has been my husband going with me.
We root each other on while on each machine. It’s been a great experience so
far. We are doing 3 machines for legs and 3 machines for arms together and then
on days he doesn’t going with me, I do 6 other machines on my own. He really
likes that this hasn’t been stressful to get into. He puts a lot of pressure on
himself and this has been a no-pressure situation so far. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

the first week or 2 but it will even out. 27 lbs to go till my goal. I’ve never

mean by “how my life and health have been going” is just that things have
become so uncertain with my job lately. We are waiting for the next round of
layoffs which should come in the next week or 2. With this in mind, it just
reminds me how life is uncertain and short and how I want to make the most of
it. On the flip side, my health has been great. I’ve been eating better, like I
said, the weight is coming off and this run streak and weight training have me
in a positive mind set. I’m not sore at all from either thing and that makes me
happy.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

With my job being up in the air, hubby and I are making future plans that we
are getting excited about. We both very much want to travel around the country
